The holidays are a particularly busy and exciting time at the Food Connection. In particular, our Children’s Feeding Programs work on what they call “Break Bags”. Break bags have a greater amount of food than the weekend bags packed during a normal week. On weeks with no holidays, the Children’s Feeding Programs pack weekend meals for children all across Tacoma and Lakewood as part of their “Backpack” Program. Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break can cause worry in households that have small children coming home needing breakfast and lunch, as these are two meals that schools normally provide for them. Our Children’s Feeding Programs try to ease that stress and provide for children and families in need during these breaks.
During the holiday season, we couldn’t be more thankful for the hard work that all of our volunteers put into delivering the bags. Some of the volunteer drivers are friends we’ve enlisted to help out, as well! But even with all of the help we get from our wonderful volunteers, we still need more! We need some drivers to bring the bags out to schools, as well as additional help packing for the Children’s Programs. And, as always, donations to the program are greatly appreciated. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com to find out how you can help out!
