Hungry Students Get Food Thanks to Godmothers of Giving!

You can help feed students for the rest of the school year!

The Godmothers of Giving began over 30 years ago as an annual ladies-only Christmas gathering of friends and family, with four special friends we refer to as “the Golden Girls” at the heart of its founding. For many years, part of the weekend’s festivities included a gift exchange until it was suggested and agreed upon that our money would be better spent by giving to local charities. Each year, one of our group members is deemed “The Godmother” and selects an organization of her choice for that year’s gift of giving.

Last year, my sister, Jana, selected the St. Leo’s Food Connection Backpack Program, inspired by her work as a teacher in Tacoma Public Schools. Being a not-so-local graduate student in Berkeley these days, I have reselected it as this year’s charity. I trust my sister’s first-hand witness that her students are positively impacted by receiving weekly backpacks. Having grown up at St. Leo’s Parish and doing service with the parish at the Food Connection years ago myself, I am happy to give to this organization that has continued to be a vital source of food for many in need. With the backpack program, hundreds of kids across Pierce County are getting the food they need and might not receive otherwise! We hope you join us in giving to the Backpack program this year.
